Read the last column first: a native mail app beats Hark on one row today, and has no calendar at all. That row is the whole reason Hark exists — doing both natively otherwise means buying two apps. The longer version of that argument is its own page. “Soon” means built but not switched on yet: keyboard shortcuts are coming back a few at a time — today it is j, k, the arrow keys and Esc. How much does it cost?
Free while Hark is in beta — no account or card needed. After the beta, Hark is free for 30 days, then $5.99 a month for the whole app. We’ll give notice in the app before the beta ends.
What do I need to run it?
A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 14 Sonoma or later, and a Gmail or Google Workspace account. Intel Macs are not supported.
Can I use more than one Gmail account?
Yes. Click your account photo at the top right of the window and choose Add account…, or use Add account… in Settings › Accounts and Import; Hark connects up to five accounts. With two or more, All Inboxes shows every account’s inbox in one list, and a search from there looks in all of them.
Does Hark see my email?
No. Hark has passed Google’s security review for apps that access Gmail, and it talks to Google directly from your Mac — our servers never receive your mail, contacts or calendar. The only way anything from your mailbox can reach us is a screenshot you attach to a bug report yourself. The privacy policy lists everything that does reach us.
Is Hark safe? Is it made by Google?
Hark is an independent app, not made by Google. It uses Google’s official Gmail, Calendar and Tasks APIs, and its Gmail access passed Google’s review, including an independent security assessment. You can withdraw Hark’s access at any time from your Google Account’s security settings.
Does it include Calendar and Tasks?
Yes. Google Calendar and Tasks are built in and fully editable, one click from your inbox — a real week view you can drag events around in, RSVP straight from an invitation in your mail, and drag a task onto a day to schedule it.
